“Things change. They always do, it’s one of the things of nature. Most people are afraid of change, but if you look at it as something you can always count on, then it can be a comfort.”
(Robert Kincaid, The Bridges of Madison County)
2019 Greetings, All!
We hope you had a wonderful holiday season – such a great time to dedicate to friends, family, relaxation and rejuvenation. We’ll look back and put to bed the things that didn’t serve us, and look forward to starting with a clean slate, making changes where change is needed, not for the sake of it.
Natalie and I, along with our associate Geneva, will be bobbing and weaving with the ever-changing landscape that is the world of real estate, and figure out how we can best serve our clients and community in the new year. Whether the change in your lives involves buying a new home, selling an old one or investing in real property for the future, your Agents of Change are but a call, text or email away.

DID YOU KNOW? The Federal Reserve reports that at the last count, everyone across the financial system, from grandmothers to hedge funds, was holding a total of $2.9 trillion in overnight money market funds, $4.4 trillion in checking accounts and currency, and another $12.1 trillion in savings account and Certificates of Deposit. That comes to $19.4 trillion in gross “cash” and equivalents that is “on the sidelines” of the stock market…..and maybe the real estate markets too? With that much cash on the sidelines, one would have to assume any market corrections should be mild.
DID YOU KNOW? The tax overhaul capped SALT deductions at $10,000 per return, and the limit applies both to single and married joint filers, but this won’t boost taxes for many filers as much as they fear. Under prior law the AMT often eroded or erased the value of SALT deductions for taxpayers earning between about $200,000 – $500,000. The new SALT cap is likely to affect two other groups most: Those earning less than about $200,000 who took SALT deductions in the past but weren’t subject to AMT, and high earners making about $750,000+ who weren’t subject to AMT in the past and got more value for their SALT write-offs.
Your Real Estate News Digest
As we look forward to 2019, Compass announced four new initiatives at our most recent company-wide meeting, each designed to directly impact your client experience:
- Concierge services to increase your home’s appeal
- Bridge loans to offer you greater flexibility
- A vendor services marketplace to provide you with quality referrals
- Local philanthropy efforts to give back to our communities
Keep reading for a more detailed glimpse at what we have in store:
Investing in physical improvements to a home can increase its sale price dramatically, but many clients aren’t able to spend that money. With Compass Concierge, I can now fund the cosmetic services that will increase the value of your property—staging, repairs, cleaning, landscaping—and when your home sells, you’ll simply add that amount (and nothing more) to the commission.
“What we’re building
at Compass isn’t just a business; it’s a movement, borne from a common belief that we can elevate
How many more homeowners would sell if they knew they had a new home waiting for them—and the capital they needed to buy it? With this program, we will allow you to confidently buy your next home while waiting to sell your current one. The best part? Not only do well-staged, empty homes sell for more, but your family will be spared the inconvenience of having to show the listing while you’re still living in it.
where agents can connect to
best-in-class vendors, curated by other Compass agents; a source they can trust and recommend to clients.
we are going to build that
As an agent, we’re constantly asked for recommendations—architects, interior designs, contractors, gardeners, cleaners, lawyers, accountants—but of course we only want to suggest vendors who we know and trust. With this program—an agent-to-agent referral network—We’ll be able to provide you with a range of reputable vendors who we know have been vetted by a discerning audience.
And I feel an
to give it back.”
Compass Cares is our new, locally-directed community program. 100% of transactions will result in Compass making a donation—and our agents will nominate and vote for the community organizations that will receive the funds. Just how big are we dreaming, you ask? Over the next decade, we are challenging ourselves to work together to give back $1 billion to the community.
We hope that you’re as inspired as we are by the possibilities that these initiatives will create, now and in the future. If you have any questions about the programs above or how they could apply to you, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Please let us know if you or a friend/colleague needs a fantastic agent in an area other than San Francisco. Through our network we can make the connections and introductions and help to find a perfect fit.
If you like what you have received, we encourage you to share it with your friends and follow us on Facebook & Instagram.
